Thought for the day

How much faster would the flow of pedestrian traffic be along central London's thoroughfares if they were cleared of all the people handing out free crap like papers, flyers and phone cards? With all that free space, maybe people would be able to walk around all the slow tourists.

I'm just saying...

Commerce getting in the way of Commerce, eh?

I don't know why, but I read Gaiman's "Neverwhere" this afternoon and have been sort of thinking about sidewalks in London since then.

It's not getting in the way of commerce, it's getting in the way of me.

We should have a fast lane and a slow lane for pedestrians. Really. It's the only sensible, reasonable solution. If they want to dawdle they don't have to get in the way of those of us with an agenda.

Okay, intolerant rant over. :)

I've never read Neverwhere, for my sins (you said you read in that afternoon - oh what I'd give to be one of you people - like Sam - who can devour a book in one quick sitting) but the last American guest I had here was a big Gaiman fan and her trip was all about visiting the places mentioned in the book.

Eh, it's a graphic novel, so it's not all that long, and it has LOTS and LOTS of pictures -- speeds things up immensely! :D
